    Fantastic Four #6 Review

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonDecember 8, 20254 Mins Read

For once in his life, The Wizard has everything going for him! But the reason why is legitimately shocking. Your Major Spoilers review of Fantastic Four #6 from Marvel Comics awaits!

Fantastic Four 6 CoverFANTASTIC FOUR #6

    Writer: Ryan North
    Artist: Humberto Ramos
    Inker: Victor Olazaba
    Colorist: Edgar Delgado
    Letterer: VC’s Joe Caramagna
    Editor: Tom Brevoort
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
    Release Date: December 3, 2025

Previously in Fantastic Four: Extremophile aliens have invaded Earth! Their plan is to stop the planet’s rotation, so the same side always faces the sun, and then colonize that boiling, deadly side for themselves. Only the Fantastic Four can save the Earth from destruction! But none of their powers involve altering the Earth’s rotation…

    Or do they?

    AN UNEXPECTED PROPOSITION

As giant robots from outer space invade Central Park, the Fantastic Four prepare to mobilize against them. The Supreme Hegemony has claimed Earth and intends to use their world-engines to stop the planet’s rotation, creating a planet where they will flourish, with the hot side hot and the cool side cool, just like a McDLT. (If you’re under 40, you’ll probably have to term-search that one.) The machinery proves to be strong enough to evade clobberin’, complex enough that Mister Fantastic can’t just reprogram them, and hardy enough that they can’t be melted by the flames of the Human Torch. That’s when the Invisible Woman steps in, using her power to bend light in a completely unexpected way, and winning the battle through superior psychology. It’s a strategy that catches the attention of Maria Hill, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., which has been reimagined as a superhuman think tank to help the heroes of Earth-616 to better apply their super-powers to the problems at hand. It’s an impressive display, but it’s immediately upstaged when the team returns home to find that the Baxter Building has been overtaken by The Wingless Wizard!

    I STILL HATE JOHNNY’S MOUSTACHE

The line of the issue comes from the Human Torch, who wonders why the villain describes himself as “wingless”, when wizards don’t normally have wings. It’s quietly funny, and entirely in character for Johnny. The Wizard’s defeat is no surprise, but the fact that he succeeded as much as he did is discovered to be due to a fundamental change in the fabric of the universe, which leads to the clever reveal of a hidden message and its sender. North’s setup is ingenious, and the cliffhanger final page is what truly kicks off this arc. That might be a problem in the wrong creative hands, but here it’s because the Fantastic Four and their extended family are given time to shine in this first chapter. Valeria, Franklin, Alicia, and her children are all represented, and by the end of the issue, each character displays their character. The art of Ramos is not my favorite, but the visuals are impressively creative throughout. Mister Fantastic actually uses his stretchy hands to demonstrate random encryption, which is both informative and neat.

BOTTOM LINE: A STRONG FIRST CHAPTER

As the lead-in to The Invincible Woman arc, Fantastic Four #6 is very successful, drawing me in and making me want to know where the story is going, teasing a new Future Foundation under the auspices of S.H.I.E.L.D., making it clear that Susan Richards is the most creative (and likely, the most powerful) of the Four, and doing it all with clear, interesting visuals, earning 3.5 out of 5 stars overall. Honestly, when my biggest complaint about the comic is hating Johnny’s facial hair, you know we’ve got a winner on our hands.

    A Mystery Dawns

A story that features alien invasions, the Wizard attacking and a clandestine meeting with the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. still manages to be about the First Family of the Marvel Universe, and that makes for amazing reading.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.
